TOURNAMENT DETAILS
Schedule:
Click the following links for the tournament schedules!
Location:
The tournament will be held at Fairview United Medodist Church, 2508 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN 37803-8802. A map of the church can be found on the following links for MAPQUEST and GOOGLE.
Food:
Fairview United Methodist Church is surrounded with numerous restaurants within one or two miles of the campus. However, due to the limited amount of time allotted for lunch, we strongly recommend that you bring your lunch (you are welcome to bring coolers). A map of area restaurants can be found HERE
Please zoom out to see more! One note. Beef O'Brady's is listed on the website. This restaurant has recently gone out of business.
We have several of the local restaurants who have advertised in our program. Please consider giving them your business if you can! A list of all these restaurants can be found HERE.
SPECIAL NOTE: Parents who are serving the tournament as judges or tournament workers in some capacity are invited to eat in the Judges' Hospitality room during the time that they are judging. However, this room is designated for adults only and may only be used by those who are actively judging. This will be strictly enforced as CCT recruits many local business men and women, city officials, legislators and other prestigious outside judges for our tournaments, and we wish to maintain an adult atmosphere in this room.
Host Housing and Hotel Information:
Host housing is available. If you need host housing please CLICK HERE for a housing form. If you plan to arrive the day before the tournament, please do not expect the host family to provide a meal. Plan to eat prior to coming to the host home on the first day. Arrangements for food during your stay should be worked out on an individual basis with your host family.
A map of available hotels in the area is available HERE. Please zoom out to see more. The hotels closest to the church (the three on the zoomed in map) are small mom and pop type places which may not meet your family's standards. The larger chain hotels are all located within 3-10 miles of the church. For a printable list of the larger chain hotels with address and phone information as well as links to directions to the church click HERE. Please give special consideration to the Mainstay Suites in Alcoa. They have very generously supported our tournament, and are offering a special rate to tournament attendees. Details are in the page linked to above.
Judging and Timing Responsibility:
Running a successful tournament is a cooperative effort. As such, each participating family needs to provide judges and timers that are available throughout the tournament. Please provide the names of any judges or timers that you will be bringing with you on the registration information form HERE. OR right on the Joy of Tournaments site (registration page) if you want. There is a place for Professional Experience. Only enter info here that would be helpful in placing you in specific speech events (ie attended Bible College may make you good for Mars Hill/Apologetics). Don't worry too much about that section. The MAIN thing we want you to list is conflicts you may have. This means anyone who you would not be able to judge like your own children or other participants you coach. If you could not judge a student with a clear conscience, list that person as a conflict. We encourage you to help us out by providing as many judges and timers as you can.
Attire:
Dress Code for all competitors
Spirit of the Dress Code
The spirit of the dress code is modesty and professionalism with the intent to glorify Christ. The goal is to minimize the focus on the body or outward appearance and maximize the focus on the development of ideas and communication.

Competitive attire must be professional, clean and well-groomed.
Gentlemen: suits; or sports coats and ties
Ladies: Modesty is the key! Suits or dresses to the bottom of the knee; skirts or slacks with shirt-type tops or jackets; tight-fitting/low-cut sweaters or slacks are inappropriate. Midriff must remain covered when gesturing in speeches.

Important Information about Fees!
Tournament Festivities (Ball):
An evening celebration with an English Country Ball open to all parents, participants, tournament workers, and their families is planned. Come enjoy a time of English Country Dancing. It will be Saturday evening from 6:45-9:00 PM in the family room area of Fairview United Methodist Church .
NOTE: When you register for the tournament, you may register for the ball as well. It is listed under activities on the Joy of Tournaments registration page. The fee for the ball is $5.00 per person with a maxumum of $15 per family. We do not have a way to limit the fee on the registration form, so WE WILL ADJUST YOUR TOTAL to reflect a maximum charge for the ball. When you register for the ball, please make sure to include the TOTAL number from your family who will be attending so we will know how many to expect.
** IMPORTANT **
CCT Fees:
If you did not attend the Christmas Classic Tournament in December, you will need to pay your CCT dues. These dues are $25 per family per academic year (August-May). Please note that this fee is NOT related to your individual club at all, but are your dues to be a member of CCT (Christian Communicators of Tennessee). If you attended the Christmas Classic Tournament in Murfreesboro, YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID THIS FEE. If you did not attend the Christmas Classic, YOU NEED TO PAY THIS FEE! During the registration, CCT dues will be listed as a miscellaneous activity in the events. Be SURE to register for this "event" in order to pay your CCT fees!
