Apologetics questions/topics for 2011-2012

The following are the 2011-2012 questions for the Platform Apologetics event.   Please choose one question to answer or one statement to respond to:

Questions/statements about the Bible

  1. How do you know the Bible is true?
  2. Haven’t modern critics proved that the Bible is just the product of men and not the Word of God?
  3. The Bible is full of errors, so how could it be the Word of God?
  4. Why should I pay attention to the Bible when it’s over 2000 years old?
  5. What makes the Bible different from any other religious books?
  6. A lot of people say the Bible is just the thoughts and writings of men.  What makes you think it was somehow written by God?
  7. Lots of books can tell you how to be a good person.  So, what’s so special about the Bible?
  8. We weren’t at the resurrection of Jesus, so we have no way to know whether it really happened, do we?
  9. The Old and New Testaments are pretty unreliable, aren’t they?

God in Creation

  1. What can we learn about God from studying His creation?
  2. You just believe the world was created by your God because your Bible says so.  The scientific facts point to evolution.
  3. How does the fact that you and I exist argue that God exists?
  4. Since science has explained how the world began, why do we need a Creator?

Pain and Suffering

  1. If God exists, why does He allow shootings, earthquakes, and other tragedies to occur?
  2. How could a good God send people to hell forever?
  3. Your God can’t be all-good and all-powerful with so much suffering.  Either He is good but not powerful enough to stop evil, or He’s all-powerful but not all-good and so He chooses not to stop suffering.  Which is it?

Christianity and Other Religions

  1. What about all the people who have never heard of Jesus; how can it be fair for God to condemn them?
  2. What are the major ways that Christianity is different from other religions?
  3. How is the God of Christianity different from the gods of other religions?
  4. Isn’t it awfully narrow-minded for Christians to claim that Jesus is the only way?
  5. I believe in a higher power, but it’s just a matter of faith; it doesn’t really affect how I live my life.
  6. Aren’t all religions just different roads to God?

Negative Impressions of Christianity

  1. If Christianity is true, why is it divided into so many branches that all disagree with one another?
  2. We need to uphold the wall of separation between church and state so that Christians don’t try to impose their beliefs on the rest of us.
  3. Christians are anti-ecology
  4. Christians are a bunch of goody-goodies who are always talking about what you shouldn’t do; they never actually do much positively.
  5. Hasn’t religion, and especially Christianity, caused most of the fighting and killing in the history of the world?

Do I Need Christ?

  1. If I’m happy with my life, why do I need Jesus?
  2. Why would I want to be a Christian?
  3. I’m a pretty good person.  I don’t think God would ever condemn me.
  4. I think it’s best to just live a good moral life.  I don’t need God for that.

Miscellaneous Questions

  1. Why do you believe Jesus is God instead of just a well-meaning man?
  2. Isn’t it a myth that this is a Christian nation?
  3. How has being a Christian changed your life?
  4. You and I have never seen God.  So, what makes you think He exists?
  5. Does Christianity really line up with the real world we see around us?
  6. What good has Christianity ever produced in the world?
